Civil Engineering

This department was started the very next year of the college inception in 2010 to cater to the growing needs of builders for our nation and to the world at large. The department has state of art facilities equipped with latest instruments, equipment, and software for imparting technical knowledge on par with international requirements.

Highly qualified and well experienced in industry and teaching faculty members, well-equipped laboratories and workshops are the strengths of this department. Advanced licensed software are available to students to take up real time projects in Civil Engineering. The consultancy cell of this department is under planning in testing the quality of materials like concrete, brick, soil, water, bitumen, aggregates and steel reinforcement.

The Department of Civil Engineering pulls out all stops to create outstanding engineers - with advanced teaching techniques and learning aids for undergraduate students. The discipline deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings.

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of Civil Engineering Department is to disseminate the knowledge over latest technologies in Civil Engineering to the students; so that they can cater the demand of builders/contractors and construction industry in and around the institution as well as to the needs of the country and abroad.

Civil Engineering is a very old Engineering discipline and also a fastest growing engineering branch. The prescribed curriculum of Anna University of Technology includes many important subjects like Analysis of Structures, Concrete & Steel Structural Design, Strength of materials, Fluid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Estimation and Costing, Surveying etc. with the growth of Indian Economy, the Civil Engineers are in High demand.

VISION:

  • Keep pace with the advancing Civil Engineering technologies.
  • Develop a sense of self respect, self-discipline, moral values, social responsibility and co-operative work attitude.
  • Play a commendable role in prosperity of human civilization and protection of human life from extinction.

MISSION:

  • Provide value-based education in engineering, technology and management.
  • Inculcate dedication, hard work, sincerity and ethics in building up of the overall professional personality of our students and faculty
  • Empower students to acquire current knowledge with ethics so as to meet the requirements of the nation in the knowledge world.
  • Offer consultancy services to organizations in analysis, design and planning of the civil engineering systems.

OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Civil Engineering offers vast scope for irrigation by constructing barrages, dams, canals and distributaries. Vast areas of dry land have been successfully irrigated and green revolution has become a reality in India.
  • Flats and apartments are constructed in urban areas to provide shelter to large number of people. Multi storeyed buildings and sky−scrapers are planned and constructed to provide office space, shopping−malls, cyber centers, hotels and restaurants etc.,
  • Good network of roads, highways & expressways are necessary for movement of men and materials. Railways, Airways and Waterways are needed for overall development of any country.
  • Flood control, Earthquake resistant design of structures and environmental protection are other areas wherein Civil Engineering has an important role to play.
  • Nationally & internationally to cater to the demand of Construction industry as well as in teaching field.
  • To make the young civil engineers blossom into entrepreneurs, scientists, industrialists, academicians, supervisors in equal proportions to have a technological balance.
